Nekio is a free anime streaming and tracking platform, run as a personal, non-commercial project. This policy explains what data the service stores, why, and the choices you have. You can reach us at any time through the Contact page.
Account: your username, the email address you provide at registration, and a bcrypt hash of your password — your password is never stored or readable in plaintext. If you upload an avatar or banner, it is downscaled in your browser and stored as image data in our database.
Activity: your watchlist and list statuses, per-episode watch history with playback progress (so you can resume where you left off), reviews, comments, content requests, player issue reports, watch parties, notifications, and your VIP status if you redeem a code.
Technical: a session row tied to the nekio_session cookie described below, the IP address recorded on your account at registration, and basic server logs for security and debugging.
We do not ask for or store your real name, phone number, or payment details. The email address collected at registration is used only as an account identifier — Nekio sends no email. Nekio is free; VIP codes are redeemed directly without any payment processor.
We do not run advertising, analytics, or tracking of any kind — no third-party trackers, no profiling, no data brokerage.
A single functional cookie, nekio_session, keeps you signed in. It is an httpOnly random token backed by a session row in our database, valid for up to 30 days (renewed while you stay active), marked Secure whenever the site is served over HTTPS. It is never used for tracking.
Your browser's local storage holds interface preferences only — theme, title language, player preferences, card size, and similar settings. That data never leaves your browser and can be cleared at any time from your browser settings or by resetting the site's preferences.
Nekio is self-hosted: the site and its database run on infrastructure managed directly by the publisher, with no hosting provider storing your data.
When you use the site, your browser may contact these third parties directly: TMDB (metadata and artwork — titles, posters, descriptions, episode thumbnails) and the video providers embedded in the player. Those services see your IP address like any website you load resources from. Nekio does not send them your account data.
Content images are always loaded remotely — Nekio never stores cover art, banners, or episode thumbnails on its own servers.
Solely to provide the service: signing you in, remembering your progress and lists, powering notifications and watch parties, and moderating the community. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or any third party.
Data may be disclosed only if required by law or to protect the safety of users and the platform.
Account and activity data is kept for as long as your account exists. Session rows expire within 30 days and are deleted on logout or expiry. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security purposes.
You can view and edit your profile, lists, and history at any time from the interface — removing an item deletes it from the database.
Under the GDPR (for EU users) you have the right to access, rectify, export, and erase your personal data. A data export endpoint is available to VIP members, and any request — including full account deletion — can be made through the Contact page.
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, session tokens are random and httpOnly, and API keys stay server-side so they are never exposed to the browser. As with any online service, absolute security cannot be guaranteed, but we apply these measures to reduce risk.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us so it can be removed.
This policy may be updated as the platform evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision — continued use of Nekio after a change means you accept the updated policy.
